Memphis, Tenn. (October 15, 2012) – Kiyah Anderson, a senior at Central High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Anderson was one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for General Scholarship. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. She and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Kiyah has maintained top grades while participating in a challenging curriculum. She holds a 4.82 weighted grade point average and scored 30 on the ACT with a near perfect score of 35 in English. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the National English Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. She also participates with the school choir, Key Club and the Knowledge Bowl Team.
A five-year recipient of the Memphis City Schools William H. Sweet Award for Academic Excellence, Kiyah currently ranks second in a class of 369 seniors. She earned Maxima Cum Laude and Summa Cum Laude awards for her scores on the National Latin Exam. She was awarded the Swarthmore College Book Award during her junior year. After being accepted into the Memphis Prep Program, she attended the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy’s five-week summer program.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators. Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, Le-Moyne Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
